The State University of New York at Buffalo, Department of Geology is one of the fastest growing geology departments in the nation. The Department has ten tenured or tenure-track faculty and will grow to 11 by January 2006, with the addition of two new members.
Undergraduate enrollment has doubled since 1990, and faculty research has attracted students from all over the world, including Germany, India, China, France, Italy, Russia, as well as helped to increase local student enrollment. Our alumni tend to be more successful in their careers, and work in a variety of fields as educators, scientists, consultants, etc. We're always interested in hearing about our graduates. If you've graduated from the Geology Department at UB please take a minute to let us know what you're up to.
Alumni support through donations helps us to maintain our programs at the highest level - to replenish teaching laboratory equipment, purchase up-to-date computer equipment for instruction in the latest analytical methods, and to offer geological field trips as an integral part of many of our classes, among other benefits.
We also use money donated to the Department to form a series of scholarships that encourage academic excellence among our students, reward their personal achievements, and support their participation in research and scientific meetings.
UB holds several fundraising drives throughout the year. Some of these are for a general fund, and others are for the benefit of specific programs. As always, you may direct your donation to our department. When you specify that your gift is to be directed to the Geology Department, that money is made available to the Department for use in the types of programs we described above. We greatly appreciate your donation and the support for our work.
