Geology Alumni, Dr. Bernard Hubbard to give talk on March 28, 2008!
The Department of Geography will
host Dr. Bernard Hubbard, on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 3:15 PM. Dr. Hubbard
will be giving a talk “Land-use/cover Factors Influencing Soil Erosion and
Turbidity Issues in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed: A Multi-temporal Satellite
Imagery Perspective” in Fillmore 170. Hubbard is a 2001 graduate of UB Geology
and works for the U. S. Geological Survey, Eastern Mineral Resources. Off
Campus Attendees: Campus parking pass not required in any lot after 3:00 pm.

MARCH, 2008: Conference, Natural Disasters in Small Communities: How Can We
Help?
The Center for GeoHazards Studies will be hosting a two-day conference March
29 and 30, 2008 to explore geohazards in small communities. The conference
will be held in Buffalo (NY). Registration for this conference is required.

Geology Presents Climate Talk by Dr. Paul M. Mayewski, April 4, 2008!
UB Geology presents a talk by Dr. Paul
M. Mayewski, Director and Professor, Climate Change Institute, University
of Maine, "The Ice Chronicles, Rapid Climate Change, the Importance of
Polar Regions, and Implications for the Future" on Friday, April 4, 2008.
The talk will take place in 228 Natural Sciences Complex (North Campus), beginning
with refreshments at 2:45 PM. Mayewski's lecture, "The The Ice Chronicles,
Rapid Climate Change, the Importance of Polar Regions, and Implications for
the Future" defines climate and details how climate changes, why climate
changes an how humans are impacting climate. Mayewski will explore whether
recent climate change is part of a natural process or in a “new state” and
talk about where we go from here. Mayewski is a 1964 graduate of UB Geology
and has led several major scientific projects including Greenland Ice Sheet
Project 2, International Transantarctic Scientific Expedition and the Central
Asian Deep Ice Coring, authored more than 300 publications and has been a
keynote speaker at as many events. He is this year's recipient of the University
at Buffalo Alumni Achievement Award in recognition of his work in polar glacier

envelope.) Alumni who want to complete an alumni update form can do so online

Hosts Private Alumni Reception at the AAPG Annual Meeting in San Antonio,
April 21, 2008!
Please stop by and see us while you're
at AAPG this spring. On Monday, April 21 st from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM, UB
Geology will be hosting a private alumni event in which alumni and friends
can catch up with each other and department faculty over good food and wine.
The event will be held at the Grand Hyatt, San Antonio. If you'd like to attend,
